Best Countertop Water Filters 2026
Countertop water filters need no drilling and no plumbing. The five below are all fill-and-plug units: you pour tap water into a tank, plug them in and press a button. What separates them is what their certification listings cover, and the gap is wide. One is listed for fluoride, lead, arsenic and PFAS; two others are listed for TDS and nothing else. We read each listing in the certifier's own directory and give you the substances it names.

How to choose a countertop water filter
NSF/ANSI 372 covers lead-free materials in the housing and says nothing about what the filter removes. NSF/ANSI 58 is the reverse osmosis standard, but a 58 listing names specific substances: AquaTru's names fluoride, lead and arsenic among others, Waterdrop's M6 listing names TDS alone. Read the list, not just the number.
Carbon does not reduce fluoride; a reverse osmosis membrane can, and AquaTru's listing confirms it does for the Classic. If you want PFAS and lead reduction with no membrane and no waste water, the Ninja HydraSense and the Aquasana Clean Water Machine are both certified for them under NSF/ANSI 53.
The M6H's instant hot function replaces a kettle for tea, coffee and cooking. If you only need cold water, the M6SL costs less and has one more stage. Reverse osmosis sends part of the water to a waste tank you empty by hand. Waterdrop states a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio for both M6 models. The Ninja and the Aquasana use no membrane and waste nothing.
